This is the
Giant Killing Adventure’s first visit to Borough Park. Workington AFC are currently bottom of the
Skrill Conference North, with 8 pts from 12 games.
Stourbridge
FC play one division lower in the football league tier system - in the Calor League -
Premier Division. Stourbridge are
currently in 5th position with 21 points from 11 games; having won their last 6 games in a row.
This is Workington
AFC’s first match in the Giant Killing Adventure – previously in the FA Cup
they beat Burscough FC 2-1 in the 2nd Qualifying Round and then away
at Guisborough Town 1-4 in the 3rd Qualifying Round.
Lucky for the
Giant Killing Adventure, this fixture was covered by the FA in their Road to
Wembley series. Click on the link below to
see highlights of that match.
This is Stourbride FC’s second match in the Giant Killing
Adventure – previously in the FA Cup they beat Evesham United away
0-3 in the 1st Qualifying Round and then Sutton Coldfield Town at home 3-2 in the 2nd Qualifying Round. I witnessed a fine
domineering performance in the 3rd Qualifying Round against Curzon
Ashton as they knocked the Giant Killing Adventure’s league leaders out of the
tournament 3-0.

The FA Cup
community is growing bigger as I type.
At Workington AFC I will be joined by comrades who are also following
their own route to Wembley – this has now become the same river as our Giant
Killing Adventure. Alan Oliver – known as the Casual Hopper - and his daughter
started off at West Didsbury V Abbey Hey. Their coverage is more football based than the Giant Killing Adventure's and their website www.thecasualhopper.co.uk is geared
towards making money for the Christie Cancer Charity. This is a great cause and personal to me as I
lost my mother to cancer and I have partaken in various Christies Charity bike
rides. I give my best wishes to the
Casual Hopper and his cause.
Calvin Wade @calvin_wade is following the route with his father and writing a book about the
experiences.
The football cynic has also joined the same
route and more information about him can be found @footballcynic and http://footballcynic.com/.
This is great
stuff, the more, the merrier I say, and we’ll see how big the community grows
in each round as more and more of us with the same idea meet.
If the journeymen continue and we continue then at some point we’ll all meet.
I hope you’ve enjoyed the extras. My guest Frazer Sanderson will be joining me again and we’ll see you on Saturday 26th October 2013 for our blog’s match between Workington AFC and Stourbridge FC – 2 days, 2 sleeps, can’t wait.
