The Lamex Stadium second Visit

This is the Giant Killing Adventure’s second visit to The Lamex Stadium in Stevenage. My last visit to Stevenage was last year with blog guest Tim Webster on 7th December 2013. In general, the Giant Killing Adventure blog is doing pretty well with 12,154 page views since its inception on 13th August 2013 - it’s been a great journey so far.  Now with the inclusion of the Premiership big boys such as Everton, things can only get better.

Let’s get to business:-

This is Stevenage FC’s third match in the Giant Killing Adventure – previously in the FA Cup they beat Portsmouth at home 2-1 (1st Round Proper). We witnessed a domineering performance in the 2nd Round Proper as they beat previous blog favourites Stourbridge at home 4-0.  Then they travelled 133 miles up north to beat Doncaster 2-3 at the Keepmoat Stadium – the scoreline is a little flattering to Doncaster as Stevenage were the better side as they beat a team 1 division higher than them.  The Giant Killing Adventure is now travelling those 133 miles back to Stevenage for Saturdays’ encounter with Everton FC – Everton are 2 divisions higher than Stevenage.

We welcome Everton FC to their first match in the Giant Killing Adventure – previously in the FA Cup they beat QPR at home 4-0 in the 3rd Round Proper. Everton have lifted the trophy 5 times and they won the FA Cup as recently as 1995 (beating Manchester United 1-0).  Everton were runners up in 2009 (losing 2-1 to Chelsea).

It is the magic of the FA Cup in full flow.  A proper David and Goliath battle as Stevenage are struggling at the bottom of league one and Everton are in 6th place in the top tier of English football.  The two teams have already met once this season at Goodison Park – this was back in August 2013 in the League Cup and Everton won 2-1 after extra time. Everton were pushed close at home, so maybe at Stevenage the result could be flipped.
Stevenage manger Graham Westley has said that Everton will be bewildered by Stevenage at home.  The BBC sport news website is also following this game http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/25847809.

Don’t forget about The Giant Killing Adventure Facebook page.  The page will hold images, comments and information about new blog postings.  Please feel free to be part of the community by ‘Liking’ the page. Click on link below:

Saturday’s Blog guest will be Tim Webster as he makes his 4th appearance in the Giant Killing Adventure (expect lots of food to be eaten).  2 days sleep to go and this is gonna be a good one.
