My personal journey as I follow the Women's and the Men's FA Cup from the Extra Preliminary Round, right through to the final. Like the FA Cup itself, my route will be random - the goal is to go to the games and report upon the experience of the places whilst comparing the men's and women's game at all levels.

Mossley Hill Ladies FC
I’d like to apologise for all the complaining and start with 3 positive
stories. The wonderful Stourbridge FC released news about Stourbridge Ladies
becoming the first semi-professional team in the Midlands, even though they
only play in the 6th tier of the game. It’s an interesting read and discusses what
this means psychologically to the players, in terms of their perceived worth,
and the impacts of more training and diet plans etc on their development.
Please could more clubs adopt a similar policy and the article can be read
here.

The Manchester United Women’s team have gone on a mini-tour with the
men’s team this week to Norway. This is
another positive development and Liverpool FC have taken it a step further as
they took their Women’s team on their full tour of the United States. Liverpool’s
tour included the use of private jets and official club buses. Well done Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp for the
forward thinking.
Now onto GKA business: -
Both Mossley Hill Ladies and Burnley Belvedere FC Ladies have tweeted
about our blog! Cheers for the
support.
This is where the difficult information times continue (another minor
whinge), and (another disclaimer) I may be wrong about Mossley Hill’s position
and even their name (when you look at the League Table on their website they
seem to be called Mossley Hill Athletic, but everywhere else it is just Mossley
Hill Ladies FC). Another slightly perplexing
issue is that there seem to be two lower divisions and two lower Tiers than
Mossley Hill and yet those teams aren’t joining the FA cup until the
Preliminary Round – In the men’s FA Cup the lowest ranked teams start in the
competition first.
All this looking at tiers has literally brought me to tears so let’s get
on with it…
I think Mossley Hill Ladies FC are in the 5th Tier of the
English Women’s Football Pyramid. They
play in the North West Women’s Regional League Premier Division. The female section of the club has been
running for almost 20 years now and they have risen through the ranks from the
lower divisions through various promotions.
The club boasts to ‘have beaten teams such as Everton Ladies, Manchester
City Women and Preston North End Ladies in recent years.’
During the summer I saw England Lioness star Toni Duggan play at the
World Cup - her skills were developed at the Mossley Hill team from 2001 to
2003 before she moved over to Everton, Manchester City, Barcelona and most
recently Atletico Madrid.

Last season Mossley Hill came 4th in the league and are hoping
to improve on that in the 2019/20 campaign. The GKA wishes them good luck…
Mossley Hill is a district of Liverpool in the North West of England and
the street from the famous Beatles song ‘Penny Lane’ is located there –
including ‘the shelter in the middle of the roundabout.’
We all know about Liverpool itself as a huge City of great importance – it
has a rich history of industry, music, culture, architecture and comedy (I’m
old enough to remember Carla Lane sitcoms such as ‘The Liver Birds’ and
‘Bread’). The City has two massive football teams in the men’s game… Liverpool
and Everton.
In our 2014 blog I picked up Everton 3 times as they beat Stevenage in
the 4th Round, beat Swansea in the 5th Round then lost to
overall winners Arsenal in the 6th Round.
I’ve visited Liverpool various times and spent many an hour by the Albert
Dock enjoying great food and wine. It will be my first time in the Mossley Hill
area and I’m looking forward to it. Next
up, some information about Mossley’s Hill’s (Athletic?) opponents Burnley
Belvedere…
